Overview

An academic series of expert classes mainly held at Deanery House in Bristol on topical and emerging areas of importance in medical education for Postgraduate Medical Education. They are open to HEE Southwest, Postgraduate Medical Educational Teams, Educators in Trusts and GP Trainers. Global and nationally important speakers and subject experts are sought and invited.

 

Aim

A programme of faculty development for senior educators in the Severn and Peninsula to assist in creating a consistent understanding about current developments and issues affecting medical education.

 

Reasons for offering this Master Class:

A half day workshop suitable for all those who encounter conflict in professional, managerial, educational, health, mental health and social care settings, based on a theoretical relational understanding from Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). Explaining and mapping out what is going on can help in situations where interactions are complex - between communities and professional groups and also when people are working together on complex tasks or where dialogue and communication have broken down.

 

Speaker details:

Dr Jason Hepple is  known internationally as a CAT psychotherapist and trainer. He is Chair of the Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT), a  Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, a consultant psychiatrist and educational supervisor for Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and  a former senior manager in the NHS. He has edited and written numerous books and articles on CAT.

 

Aim of this master class:

To better deal with conflicts you find in your professional life.

 

Objectives: by the end of the master class participants will be able to:

  • Learn to analyse the conflict from a cognitive analytic perspective
  • Notice where the conflict begins
  • Map the relational patterns being enacted
  • Find exits from the conflict
  • Learn about how to care for yourself in conflicted situations
