Applications are invited for appointment as a NIHR TCC Academic Clinical Fellow (ACF) on the above Specialty Training Programme in partnership with Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Exeter Medical School.

The combined infection training arrangements are:

      -ST3 level applicants would need to spend a block of 12 months in Bristol doing the 6 months compulsory Infectious diseases component of Combined Infection Training, and 6 months medical microbiology.

      -The other 2 years of the ACF would be Exeter based for further clinical microbiology training and research. 

      -The 25% research time would be spent as best suits the individual training needs- e.g.  one or two blocks of months or regular slot of e.g. 1 day weekly. 

 

Areas of current research: 

      1-Resistome of diabetic foot infections and therapeutic manipulations

      2-Identifying resistance drivers in the environmental resistome of defined populations receiving antimicrobial therapy for urinary tract infections.  

      3-Quantitative model of horizontal gene transfer (HGT) in Staphylococcus aureus- mainly bioinformatics based

      4-Antimicrobial resistance gene changes with long term antimicrobial therapy for deep seated infections 

 

Eligibility Criteria for recruitment to Specialty Training – Immigration Requirements

Health Education England (HEE) is responsible for the sponsorship of Medical and Dental trainees for their Tier 2 visa application in England.
