Overview:
This 2-day course introduces Doctors to Motivational Interviewing (MI) The course will focus on using the skills of MI in conversations between clinician and patient to support change-based consultations. Often to be helpful, clinicians try and convince patients to change, at times to no avail. MI allows us to consider a different way to work with people and help in a way that may allow sustained change. Initially focusing on developing the interpersonal relationship allows the opportunity to direct the conversation towards change where necessary even in those less ready to do so.
