Overview:

This 2-day course focuses on using the skills of Motivational Interviewing (MI) in conversations between supervisor and trainee to support the growth of the trainee, in a way that may allow sustained change. Initially focusing on developing the Dr-Trainee interpersonal relationship allows the opportunity to direct the conversation towards change where necessary even in those less ready to do so. You must have competed the Introduction to MI half day course before attending this course.

Content:

  1. Recap on the tasks and skills of MI
  2. The relational skill set of OARS-I
  3. Recognising and working with the language change talk through the core tasks of Engaging/Focusing/Evoking
  4. Strengthening change talk
  5. Planning change
  6. Managing ambivalence
  7. Increasing readiness to change
  8. Pulling it all together; Where from here

Audience:

Associate Dean Secondary Care, Associate DME, College/Specialty Tutor, Deputy Dean, DME, Educational/Clinical Supervisor Secondary Care, Dental Educational/Clinical Supervisor, HoS, SAS Doctor (Associate Specialist, Specialist, Speciality Doctor, Staff Grade, Tutor), TPD Secondary Care or Public Health Supervisor

Course Length:

This two day course, starts on both days at 09:00 and finishes at 16:00.

  • There is a requirement to attend “Introduction to Motivational Interviewing” first, before registering for this course.
  • This is a 2 day course, please ensure that you are available to attend both days.
