Workstreams

SWETA has focused on 4 key workstreams that form a multi-disciplinary endoscopy workforce and reflect the whole patient pathway: Trainees (Gastroenterology, Surgical and trainee endoscopists), Administrative and Clerical Staff, Endoscopy Nurse Workforce and Independent Endoscopists.

The aim of this SWETA is to ensure provision of sustainable training capacity for SW NHS Trusts to provide a pipeline of trained Endoscopy workforce to meet the demands of the SW region. SWETA is developing a blended learning approach across the key workstreams (Endoscopy trainees, Nursing Workforce, Independent Endoscopists and Endoscopy administration).

The aim of SWETA is to monitor trainee progress, establish additional training capacity, establish additional course activity and increase endoscopy trainee numbers in the region to support workforce expansion. SWETA is committed to delivering a coordinated approach to course delivery that meets regional endoscopy training need ensuring training needs are met at the right time & competence at completion of training.
Alongside this, SWETA will ensure early identification of trainees joining the gastroenterology programme and surgical trainees who have selected a subspecialty interest in upper GI or colorectal surgery and assist planning of appropriate course provision to accelerate learning, attend mandatory courses required for CCT and maximise endoscopy experience and expertise.
