Job Planning

Job planning is an agreed requirement and fundamental aspect of the new contracts for Associate Specialists and Specialty Doctors as well as an integral part of Staff Grade and pre-2008 Associate Specialist contracts. It is also an opportunity, for doctors and employers to agree upon the working schedule and thus minimize uncertainties. A good job plan should clarify your and your employer's expectations and achieve clarity on the use of time and resources to meet individual and service objectives.

Continuing Professional Development

The purpose of continuing professional development (CPD) is to help improve the safety and quality of care provided for patients and to the public. You are responsible for identifying your CPD needs, planning how those needs should be addresses and undertaking CPD that will support your professional development and practice.” 

You will have guidance from the relevant Royal Colleges as to what is needed for your role. Your appraiser will discuss your development needs in your appraisal and the SAS tutor in your Trust will help you to achieve your personal development plan (PDP) objectives.

There are useful documents available to guide you as to what CPD is relevant and useful.   This is for all doctors and is a useful guide and there are links to the GMC document “Good Medical Practice” which is the core guidance for all doctors.
